The Chain of Custody (CoC) standard is the key framework that connects Better Cotton Initiative supply with demand.

The CoC Standard sets out auditable requirements for organizations in the supply chain that are buying or selling Physical Better Cotton, or cotton-containing products as Mass Balance orders.

Chain of Custody (CoC) audits are a requirement for any supply chain stakeholder wishing to source, process and sell Physical BCI Cotton.

 

It is conducted and assessed by approved third-party certification bodies (CBs).

A fifth of the world’s cotton is now grown under the Better Cotton Initiative Standard. In the 2023-24 cotton season, through our network of field-level partners, 1.39 million licensed Better Cotton Initiative Farmers in 15 countries grew 5.64 million tonnes of BCI Cotton.

The Better Cotton Initiative is ISEAL Code Compliant.

 

The system has been independently evaluated against ISEAL’s Codes of Good Practice–a globally recognized framework for effective, credible sustainability systems.
