International Sustainability and

Carbon Certification (ISCC)

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is an independent multi-stakeholder organization that provides a globally applicable certification system for the sustainability of raw materials and products, traceability through the supply chain and the determination of greenhouse gas emissions and savings. It aims to contribute to the implementation of environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production and use of all kinds of biomass in global supply chains.

ISCC is the first international certification system that can be used to prove sustainability and greenhouse gas savings for all kinds of biomass and bioenergy. As more than 250 stakeholders from Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia contributed to its development, ISCC guarantees a high practical orientation and cost efficiency.

ISCC describes the rules and regulations of the certification process that is oriented towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable use of land and the protection of natural habitats. ISCC-certified biomass shall not be produced on land with high biodiversity value, high carbon stock and peatland. Areas with high conservation value are also excluded.
